Organized and influential gangs are luring kids and youths into their fold and the gangs are perpetrating a culture of violence and anger. This puts severe mental pressure on the affected citizens and they live in conditions of constant fear and terror. The fallout of gang crime is that not only liberty and privacy affected but also property is lost and life is endangered.
The gang members very often have international connections many of those end up in involving themselves in terrorism. The gang members commit a variety of crimes ranging from extortion, illegal drug trafficking to looting and killing. They procure and possess illegal firearms and weapons, and impart training about these weapons to one and all including misguided kids who join their ranks. The members of a gang share common identity in the sense that they know just violence.
Hallsworth and Young (2005) describe an organized crime as, “a group of individuals for whom involvement in crime is for personal gain mostly financial, though could be otherwise like sexual gratification. For most, crime is their occupation.”
According to FBI, gang crime seems to emanate from everywhere. Therefore, FBI has created a national taskforce to specifically target organized gang crime. The agencies involved in this effort are Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) since no single agency is in a position to dismantle gang crime from its roots.
