Vehicle Burglary Prevention
Vehicle burglary is usually described as the theft of property of any value from a secured vehicle.

Vehicle burglary is a felony. A vehicle burglary can happen at any time of the day or night. Most vehicle burglaries just have one thing is common and that is to steal or rob anything valuable left in a car.

Therefore, this crime is basically a crime of opportunity and one can take vehicle burglary prevention steps to avoid them.

Vehicle Burglary Prevention:

  • Remove all visible items from your vehicle. This means not leaving things like wallets, purses or cell phones under your seat because anyone could watch you do that and then steal the items. If you leave anything visible in your vehicle, you are bound to make yourself into a target.
  • It is important to lock your vehicle at all times. This means locking your vehicle and taking the keys with you even if you are going for a quick errand. Make sure you close all windows including vents and sunroofs. Do not forget to lock the trunk as many times burglars can use this as an access to get into the car.
  • Buy an alarm for your car, although many people think this is not useful any longer. If given a chance to rob a vehicle with an alarm and one without an alarm, the burglar will always prefer to steal a car without an alarm.
  • Make sure you park your vehicle in a safe place. Use your garage to park your car and make sure you lock all the doors. If you do not have a garage, then park your car in a well-lighted area. As much as possible, avoid parking your vehicle in alleys.
  • If you park in the driveway of your home, install motion sensors which will trigger the light to come on if anyone moves in the immediate area.
