Columbia’s drug traffickers also control the prostitution network. There are two types of prostitution networks in the country: one that caters to the domestic and regional market and the other provides women to international prostitution markets in countries like Spain, Britain, Germany, Belgium and the United States.

The reasons why women enter prostitution in Columbia are because of physical mistreatment in the family, sexual abuse by parents or step-parents, rejection, abandonment, unemployment or lack of skill to earn a living.
