Prenuptial Agreement... 

    A prenuptial agreement is also known as “prenup” or “prenupt”. It is basically a legal contract between a couple prior to marriage.  

 

            The prenuptial agreement usually includes provisions for the division of property. Prenuptial agreement can be categorized into: marriage contract and cohabitation agreement. Marriage contract is for a couple who are about to be married, and the cohabitation agreement is for the unmarried couple.

            In the past, the judges in the United States often refused to acknowledge the prenuptial agreement, because they believed it corrupted family value. Many judge often disregarded the laws. Nowadays the legal aspect of prenuptial agreement has changed. The laws around the world have recognized prenuptial agreement more than the past.

            If you fall into the following categories, you might want to consider a prenup.

  1. You are a business owner.
  2. You are rich.
  3. You might be entitled to an inheritance.
  4. You are supporting your spouse through college.
  5. You have someone that you need to take care of like elderly grand parents.
  6. You are pursuing a lucrative career like medicine.

 

             If you are considering a prenuptial agreement, you should try to do it as early as possible. Furthermore, you should openly and honestly discuss it with your spouse. Although a prenuptial agreement is not very romantic, it is a realistic and understandable contract. You don’t what to doubt your spouse for marrying you for your money.
