Real Estate -- Know What You are Signing

Real Estate Law is getting more and more complicated. Gone are those days when you used to sign a one page or maximum two pages for a brokerage agreement with a realtor.

In today’s scenario, realtors, lawyers and everyone else connected with real estate is busy trying to make sure that they have themselves covered should any eventuality happen. No one is bothered about you.

The fact is with the number of pages increasing when it comes to real estate forms, most of us do not have the inclination or the time to read and understand what is written and we end up signing them blindly even if we have some doubts or unanswered questions.

The truth is that you need to make time to read every single page. In Real Estate Law you have the right to know what you are signing and why. So, do not think that you will look stupid if you read everything. Neither will you be wasting the other person’s time by reading the real estate document. In fact, many people would appreciate what you are doing as it goes to show that you are serious about the real estate transaction.

Real estate is a business. I am sure you will not sign an agreement pertaining to your business without reading it. The same holds true for real estate transactions. Remember you are buying a home and this would be the biggest investment you would ever make. It does not make sense to blindly sign documents without knowing their contents. You have to make time to read the documents, understand the contents, ask questions if necessary and once you are satisfied, you should sign the documents.
